Seems that hotels are booking up for next July 05, so I guess I better get on the restaurant reservation too...we are all foodies and this is my one and only son, so want to do it up, probably about 10 of us...any suggestions in Davis or nearby?

Really appreciate it!

P.S. Anyone have a house/BB in town that they want to rent us for the night?

As a UCD graduate and former resident of Northern CA, I heartily recommend looking toward Napa and Sonoma which is within a 1 hour drive (certainly 90 minutes).

You will have many more options for fine dining, may be able to find wine-events/pairing dinners, quality lodging is more plentiful and waking up in wine country offers a multitude of possibilities.

Not high on pomp, but for a great meal the small and intimate Osteria Fasulo in Davis is worth going to.

As Bosko mentioned, Osteria Fasulo gets mentioned here a couple of times. But also if you are willing to drive to Sacto downtown, there are a number of possibilities. The Firehouse in Old Sac, Biba, Esquire Grill, Waterboy, etc.

(BTW forget Napa. Sure there are a lot of nice restaurants in the Napa area. But it's a long ways from Davis, esp. if you have to drive at night and after a couple of glasses of wine.)

As for lodging, have you looked into the Aggie Inn?

I'll stand by my Napa recommendation, thank you. An easy hour drive from Davis, yet worlds away atmospherically. Who said anything about nighttime or driving after a couple glasses of wine?

Consider a hotel in Napa. It's a destination. Davis' meager accomodations will be overburdened on a graduation weekend.

did you graduate from college? don't you remember the stress you felt of fealing torn between your friends and your family and wanting to say goodbye and be everywhere at once and probably having at least five parties to go to after the graduation dinner? (well, that is how I felt, anyway...)

I am sure the graduate would appreciate a weekend in Napa on another occaison as a special present/celebration, but NOT graduation weekend!

I wouldn't plan further than Sacto either.(and if you do do it in Sacto the parents could choose from a broader array of restaurants and hotels but the graduate would be close enough to return for after party parties....).

You are so right! There are the roommates that you've gotten to know, meeting their parents(again), the party/lunches for them and friends ... lotsa of things for the grad to do to say goodbye. Wisking him/her away may not be the thing to do on this very important/last/happy/sad day. What does the grad say?
