seeking good lemon soda
I am seeking a source of good lemon soda here in ATX for making Pimm's cups. I saw an ad for a British one called Fever's. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I think you want fever tree brand bitter lemon. I bet if you ask a central market foodie, green and white striped apron, they will open one and sample it with you. I learned about this brand from the great and tiny bar, the Tigress. Note I've not had the bitter lemon, but I've had the fever tree ginger beer and Indian tonic. Both are great.

[edit - should have read that the OP posted that he found it... sorry - dumb as a bag o' hammers this AM]
Agree TroyT - I bought them at liquor stores before CM, but CM started carrying Fever Tree at all of 'em, about 3 months ago. usually near the other tonics. They can be tough to find, but I always seek 'em out. The ginger beer is what I use for my Dark and Stormy's since we can't get Cock and Bull Ginger ale out here any more.

All is okay. Thanks to all for your input. I was at the Congress Bar on Sat. night and the bartender, a real cool, not to mention knowledgable guy, heard me talking about it to my friend. He useses Fever Tree products. But, today I saw a lemon soda at Fresh Plus and, if I recall correctly, it was by Fennimans.

Yeah, lemon soda is what you need for the Pimm's cup. I've also heard 7up and ginger ale used but not bitter lemon (though it doesn't sound bad), which is basically tonic water with lemon flavoring. I like it in Gin and tonics from time to time as a change of pace.
Glad to hear that CM has fever tree tonic. Much better than my old standby, Schweppes and leagues ahead of canada dry.

I've not sat at the bar but had wonderful drinks from it at a dinner in Congress. I've got to get back to that bar. Their Vieux Carre is one to which I aspire. - notes on that cocktail... a favorite of mine. http://cold-glass.com/2012/02/14/drin...

re: cpencis
That,, the VC, sounds like an excellent drink. I will order one next time I am at a decent bar, preferably the Bar Congress. BTW, can anyone reccommend any other bars suitable for the more mature among us, ie, old folks places. Would like conversation level quiet and perhaps a piano or well tempered clavier for background. ( This is my thread and I can hijack it if I want too).

The Tigress fits that bill. http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-tigress-pub-austin
it seats about 25, the owner has a little light music and 2 TVs in the bar, tuned to TCM constantly. No piano, but Pam, the owner and bartender provides a great conversation. No food on site, but food from just down the street on North Loop (just north of the Intermural Fields) is delivered. She made for me the first mixed drink I've ever had with scotch as a main ingredient - and it rocked. The Blood and Sand (it is also a classic 1920s cocktail).
Friends in their 20s who love good drinks enjoyed it and my parents who are well, lets say I'm in my early 40s... you do the math, they loved it too.
As far as other great bars, I love Haddington's for the drinks, but you may need the patio to meet your sound tolerance (or else in the smaller back room (The Fox Club I think is what they call it). I've had great food and drinks there as well as a nice evening for 10 back in the club (big birthday was arranged and we did a nice prix fixe (sp?)). I got into a discussion with the bartender about the Blood and Sand and he convinced me to try it with Laphroig. Certainly took on a character of its own. I had my first Viex Carre here after I'd enjoyed the bartender's company for a while and asked him for a classic drink which he could introduce me to...
