Veggielution Community Farm / Emma Prusch Farm Park in San Jose

Headed south on King Road after getting off 280 this evening, traffic was moving slowly enough . . . that is, stopped, such that I noticed the community farm on the west side of King, just north of Story Road. Checking the website now, I see that it has farmstand every Saturday from 10a to 2p with prices based on ability to pay, as well as offering a CSA for families that use EBT (food stamp) benefits and for sponsors who subsidize the CSA by paying more.

No time to stop so I'd love to hear from anyone who's familiar with the place as a customer or volunteer.

    1. Stopped by this morning while it was still cool outside. Parked at the main lot near the entrance to Prusch Park and then walked along the path between the farm houses, following the signs for Veggielution.

It took me a while to spot the farmstand itself. It's tucked away at the back of the Volunteer shed, where the youth volunteers were gathered. They spend the day doing various farm chores, with a potluck for lunch.

The stand has some tables outside with potted starter plants, including tomatoes and peppers. There's a selection of fresh leafy greens and roots, a small table inside with assorted pickles and unlabeled jams, and a counter with fresh eggs (which I gather come from the henhouse a few sheds over).

My haul was just under ten bucks, although most of that was the jam. I'm ever hopeful that it'll turn out to be some sort of marmelade (Mothercluck, how I miss you!) All prices are a suggestion only: you pay according to your means.

Bonus: picked up a box of pastéis de nata and other assorted tarts at Popular Bakery on the way home.

Produce and pastries ... that's a good day in my book.
