Seeking Black Sesame Balls - Dim Sum?

nwestie Aug 29, 2012 05:12 PM

When I was in China I had some of the most delicious Black Sesame Balls. They were the sweetest most delicious thing that looked like little balls of coal and I would love to encounter them again. What I remember about them was that they definitely had black sesame seeds on the outside, the sesame paste on the inside and I want to say there was some kind of rice flour doughy stuff in between. The whole thing tasted sweet. It was served hot, but tasted just as good cold, unlike the more typical sesame balls that have the off-white sesames.

If anyone knows where to get these black sesame balls in town, I am visiting this weekend and my taste buds would be most appreciative!

Yank Sing does a black sesame dessert. I'm not sure what it's like.

The versions you typically see in dim sum places here have ground peanuts and sugar on the outside, with black sesame paste inside the mochi-type shell. I don't think I've ever seen them with black sesame on the outside, so I hope someone can help you find them.

Joy Luck Palace in Cupertino has both the regular & black sesame balls. Black sesame seeds on the outside.
