Thasos Greek Taverna

Had dinner at the three week old Thasos Greek Taverna on Sunday night - yes, during Isaac! For a night of nasty weather the place was hopping with a decent crowd at the bar. We had some of the best grilled octopus I've ever had in any Greek restaurant. The pikilia we ordered were tzaziki, eggplant and taramasolata - of the three the taramasolata was the best - rich and creamy with ample lemon and garlic. We followed with grilled scallops - done perfectly and the grilled pork also cooked to perfection and both were delcicious. The only faulty dish was the swordfish - grossly overcooked - even when we sent it back. IMHO it's an inferior cut of fish and far too thin. Won't order it again. The decor is a stunning all white and quite a departure from what you might be expecting from a Greek restaurant. The atmosphere is very cool! Service was attentive without being overly pretentious. Wine list has a good selection of well priced wines - we had a Gavi de Gavi (italian) at $45 a bottle. For those who are Greek Island devotees you should give this a try. I was never a big fan of theirs as I always found it hit and miss - each time we went it felt like someone new was in the kitchen. I think this is a keeper and a good neighborhood place to hang out as well at the bar. Enjoy.
