How Long Has Indo/Pak Chinese Food Been in Your City?

With the help of CH I have been learning about this cuisine, which I began seeing in the Boston area (in South Indian restnts) just in the last 4-8 yrs.(I have been in Boston and eating Indian food these past 40 yrs.) I'm really curious>>When did it start appearing in your city (and what is your city, plse.?!) Has it come to your area through South Indian restaurants, or other? Thnx.

I first noticed it in the 1980's here (Vancouver BC). We have a large Indian population here. It is often called Hakka, Kolkata (Calcutta), or here in my city "Desi". We have a handful of restaurants that serve this cuisine exclusively (ie not on special section in the menu).

Tangentially - in Surrey BC (where a large majority of the Indian/Pakistani community live), you can find a variant of this type of cuisine that travelled first to Jamaica before coming here...so it is a legit Jamaican-Indian-Chinese fusion. I have only started noticing that in the last few years.

This subtype of Indian cuisine first appeared in Lubbock, Texas in approximately 2004 with the appearance of a restaurant called Sri Maharaja. It is owned by a native of Hyderabad. The owner is also the head chef.

I'd be lucky to find a decent Chinese in my area. I will have a look out for this type of cuisine when I head towards a city next.
