Is it possible for selective e-mail notifications?

Is it possible to turn off e-mail notifications on specific threads or comments you make? There are certain topics I’m truly interested in hearing what other people have to say and then there are comments in threads I make that are like poll questions…..and then I get inundated with email notifications about everyone else who responded to that thread. So is it all or nothing with email notifications or is there a way to specify when you post you don’t want notifications on a specific post/thread.

FYI I did do a search on this topic and I found a thread or two where this idea/suggestion has been made previously but I have failed to find or read if it is in fact possible. I assume not but I just figured I would flat out ask.
