Bridges BBQ in Shelby. I choose that routing to Asheville just so that I can eat there.

I'll be making that trip also this coming Saturday, and will be making the (mandatory) stop at Bridges BBQ Lodge. You go right by it on the 74 Bypass--across from the Cleveland Mall.

I also came in to say Bridges BBQ in Shelby. It's on 74 on the left when you are driving towards Asheville.

I would agree with either Bridges BBQ in Shelby except the best/fastest route from Charlotte is I-85 to 321 north to Hickory and then I-40 to Asheville. That was doesn't go through Shelby.

And it's only about 2 hours from most areas of Charlotte; why not eat in Asheville with many, many choices?

There's virtually no difference, time wise, between Highway 74/I-26 and I-85/321/I-40.

I concur, 40 isn't actually faster in my experience and it always seems to be a pain. It is good for views if it's your first time in the Blue Ridge.
