Cajun Soul Food in Antique Gas Station Off St. Charles??

Does anyone know of such a place? As a regular nola eater, i have yet to stumble upon it, but a friend who used to live here says he used to go there some years back and swears by it.
His only description was that it was in an old gas station with antique (maybe glass) gas pumps outside and they served old school cajun food, bordering on soul food. He says it was a few blocks off St. Charles.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

  1. Maybe the Trolley Stop? Though, it's on St Charles, not a few blocks off.

    1. I think it may be Cafe Freret, 7329 Freret Street, haven't been myself but it's on my list of places I'd like to try and I've also heard they serve a mean muffaletta.

      1. Maybe the ex gas station"restaurant at River Road and Dakin? I've never been there but don't remember comments about cajun food, just good hamburgers.

I believe you mean Cowbell. Awesome burgers, nice people.

        2. Thanks for the replies and suggesions!

Freret looked promising, but I do not think that is it. My friend said the place was in a failrly seedy area, and he definitely felt unsafe at first. I was thinking maybe it migh be a bit closer to downtown.??

          Thanks again for the input!

          1. maybe this is Tee-Eva's on magazine?
