Best green chile cheeseburger

brucesw Aug 27, 2012 10:15 AM

I've been roasting and peeling Hatch chiles for a couple of hours. One of the things I will be making is a green chile cheeseburger, or several, a la New Mexico. So whose got the best one in town?

What kind of cheese do you prefer? Minced chiles or strips, etc.?

I've prefer chopped in the meat and cheddar cheese! I also let HEB roast them for me and bag them in recipe sized batches before freezing unpeeled. Easy to peel when defrosting. Favorite dish is New Mexico pork stew. I hope I got enough this year to last until next August! Enjoy the bounty.

Barnaby's has a "Green Chile Cheese Hamburger" on their menu. Haven't had it though.

They have several locations and I think it's pretty good overall. If you try it, let me know what you think.

Actually I had that one several years ago but I don't remember much about it. Hmmmm.

I see Burger Guys has one on the menu; I need an excuse to go out there so maybe I'll try that one.

the Barnaby's green chile burger is delish!! So is the turkey burger, burger w/swiss and mushrooms, etc. Try the one with bbq sauce. I've found the sauce to be one of the best ever.. smoky, sweet and thick.. great smeared on anything.. In fact you can order the bbq sauce on the side for anything on the menu..

Out of the way but the poblano burger at Beyond Burger in Texas City is very good. Whole roasted pepper, split and seeded and then draped across the meat. It has been a favorite of mine lately.

Sounds good. That is the sort of treatment that I was anticipating doing at home but was surprised to find most recipes call for the chiles to be minced or chopped.

I was just looking at The Grove's menu, (Discovery Green downtown), tangentially to the Brown Center thread, and I see that they advertise "The Grove Hamburger w/ Green Chiles / Bacon & Provolone Cheese / Avocado |$14".

Haven't had it - never been to The Grove.

But I thought of this thread and just had to let you know.
