East end cafés with unsweetened non-dairy "milk" for my latte!

As someone who drinks unsweetened almond and soy milk at home, but who enjoys a latte when I'm out, I have noticed how difficult it is to find places that use non-dairy "milk" that doesn't have added sugar. (Even when I drank cows milk -- and lattes made with cows milk -- I never added sugar to my latte, so this new sweeter taste just doesn't appeal to me...) I find this puzzling, since a lot of people choose not to add sugar to their coffee, so I just can't figure out why, once you start drinking non-dairy "milk" you also have to have sugar! Also, one can add sugar to a drink, but it's not possible to remove it...

Lazy Daisy's has unsweetened soy, but their hours and location don't always suit, so I am hoping to find some other options. None of the chains (Starbucks, Tiimothy's, Second Cup, etc.) have an unsweetened option, that I am aware of.

So, here is my list. (I know, I know, it's not much of a list, but I've got a toddler, and limited time for research...)

Lazy Daisy's - yes!
Red Rocket - no
Tori's Bakeshop - no
Te Aro - no
Mad Dog Cafe - no

  1. Broadview espresso has unsweetened vanilla almond milk. I thought I read in another thread that Red Rocket at Logan and Dundas carries almond milk, is it a sweetened version? Would love to know for DH.

cheesymama, I am not sure. I called the Danforth location and was told they are bringing in almond milk, but they don't know if it is sweetened or unsweetened. Maybe the Logan/Dundas location already has it... Thanks for the tip about Broadview Espresso. My husband uses the unsweetened vanilla almond milk in his coffee (made at home with a Presso)!

    2. Hello! If you're as close as Te Aro, then you could always wander a bit west to Mercury Espresso Bar. They always have non-sweetened soy "milk" for their lattes.

Hey, thanks!!! That is great news. Will definitely stop by when in the Beaches.

          2. Full tummy, have you found any other coffee shops serving rice or almond milk lattes lately? Thinking about giving up dairy for Lent, but quite possibly might end up craving a cappuccino or latte before Easter.

I don't get around to many different places, but having a non-dairy option is pretty standard now. Are you avoiding soy?

I was at The Rooster on Broadview a few days ago, and they offer almond or soy milk, both sweetened alas, which is not my preference. Also, I found this great blog, and she has lots of cafe reviews with non-dairy options.

Let me know if you find anywhere with unsweetened non-dairy options. So far, I'm down to Tori's, which is great, but more than one destination would be better!

Yep, I'm avoiding soy because I haven't found a soy cappuccino that I like (yet). I think I might like the almond or rice milk version better than soy.

My preference is almond, definitely. Btw, the Second Cup on Bayview south of Eglinton has unsweetened almond milk. They said it is not throughout Second Cups, just at that location.

Good to know, thanks! I had a good cow milk cappuccino at Si on Broadview last week, I'll find out which non-dairy they use next time I'm there,
