Vegan in Santa Monica or near in return for a Really Big Favor.

I'm looking to take a a great friend out for a fantastic dinner. They did me wonderful favor and I want to treat them to an unforgettable vegan dinner.

Akasha in Culver City has many vegan items on the menu and can make many of their dishes vegan upon request. Plus, it's a nice-looking restaurant so you feel like you are going out for the night.

If your preference is for staying in Santa Monica you should call Melisse and see if they can't make their vegetarian tasting menu, vegan too.

Cafe Gratitude on Rose in Venice. It's the only vegan restaurant with any imagination, and any flavor.

not really an exact answer to your question:
RFD offers nice food, but imho their food is very FAR from unforgettable.
as a matter of fact i've already forgotten what i had there last.

          not in santa monica,
but i'd call providence and ask them if their vegetarian tasting menu can be done as a vegan tasting menu. THAT would be unforgettable.

Providence is the most amazing restaurant I have ever been to. I didn't know they did vegan. That should be your choice.

They can do it, and it's excellent.

n/naka is one other place (not Santa Monica, but further west than Providence) that can do it very well.

Personally, I love RFD. I go there almost every time I'm in Santa Monica. So perhaps it depends somewhat on the sort of food your friend prefers?

I will say, the service at RFD leaves something to be desired.
