Ensemble and Ensemble Tap to close

This Saturday is the last day of service. Never made it to either and as such don't have an opinion on their qualities/bang for the buck but it is always unfortunate to see a business fail so quickly.

Cursed location. I had one of the great meals of my life at La Saveur. Didn't matter. It died as well.

Sad news though I'd wondered if he'd overextended himself with eTap (seems so).

One last chance to have eTap's braised pork cheeks - terrific for beer pairing.

I think they are already closed. Last Saturday was the last day as I recall.

Drat (missed that the first post was a few days old).

That's really too bad. I was hoping to make it to Ensemble Tap one of these days. Vancouver is a brutally tough market.

He was paying $40K in rent for both places. He also suggested that it was operating Tap that brought it all down.

Dale McKay is a nice guy and I hope he lands on his feet....maybe in East Van where all the indies are opening. Interesting to note that he lauds the evil chains (Earls, Cactus Club, etc) in the article. Maybe we'll soon find him as a food architect at one of these machines a la Rob Feenie.

I got the gist that he was only mentioning the chains as being impossible to compete with, since they have an obvious capital advantage.

Plus: "MacKay says opportunities are coming his way and apart from doing some consulting work, he will most likely head to his hometown, Saskatoon, Sask., where he has family and friends."
