Trip Report - 3 Days in Seattle
Just came back from a great trip to Portland and Seattle, where I managed to squeeze in at least 4 meals per day to keep up with my to-eat list. Here are my thoughts, in no particular order:
Lunches:
-Le Pichet: Great little French place with shared tables and small, yet filling plates. They seemed to specialize in charcuterie, but had a lot to offer in terms of salads. Very affordable. Would definitely eat here again.
-Homegrown Sustainable Sandwich Shop: Good beet salad w/ goat cheese and excellent turkey, bacon, and avocado sandwiches. Would eat again; girlfriend ate twice here in 3 days.
-Revel(take-out): Great Korean with an extremely cool vibe and very nice chef. I arrived at 4 PM, thinking that the kitchen was open(doesn't open until 5), and he did me a big favor and made me food since I was leaving Seattle and had wanted to grab some on my way out as a late meal. The tuna rice bowl w/ fennel kimchi was delicious. Would absolutely eat here again.
Dinners:
-Barolo: Excellent Italian. Great food, atmosphere, and helpful waiter. Had ricotta & mushroom tortelloni in a black truffle leek sauce, which actually had truffles in it. Gf had melt-in-your-mouth gnocci in red sauce. Pasta e fagiole soup was excellent. Desserts were heavy, but very tasty. Although this meal did not taste overly oily or salty, we left feeling extremely content and full(due to finishing all our courses). The starter bread was a soft olive served with a mix of oil, olive tapenade, and sundried tomatoes. Great value at ~$40 per person, without drinks. Will definitely eat there again the next time we're in town.
-Poppy: Unique and very tasty Indian food, albeit a bit too oily. Served Thali style, so we split an appetizer(eggplant fries) and a 10-taste Thali. Would eat again.
Desserts:
-Great Harvest Bakery: Tasty samples of many pastries. Great breads. Best scone I have ever had: mixed berry cream cheese. Would definitely eat again.
-Fainting Goat Gelato: Really tasty gelato. Girlfriend liked combination of chocolate and hazelnut. I loved combination of lemon and almond gelatos. Would definitely eat again.
-Cafe Besalu: Very helpful staff who really care about their pastries. Delicious plum danish and tasty cookies(chocolate chip was good; cornmeal apricot sage was excellent). Would definitely eat again.
-Macrina Bakery: Great anadama coffee cake. Would eat again.
-Tall Grass Bakery: Tasty whole wheat breads. Would eat again.
