Jewish Holiday Foods Recipes and menusI
thought it might be nice to share some family/ cookbook recipes/menus
Rosh Ha Shanah is approaching
I just ordered ground fish for gefilte fish-everyone enjoys my old fashioned Eastern European unsweetened fish.
need to buy a small brisket, sweet potatoes-etc
I have several Jewish cookbooks as well as websites for recipes
what fishes do u use?
do u know what they don't like about the gefilte fish?
my son makes the fish with different white flesh fish
i do not put any sugar in the mixture
i use whitefish, pike, and a very small piece of carp-
onion-grated--i drain the liquid from onions
very little salt
pepper-long pepper 5 types of peppercorns-white,green,pink,green and black
matzoh meal and egg
to me the most important beside fish is the broth
celery, celeriac, parsnip, carrots, parsley root, parsley, dill, onion, leek, and white turnip
The main differences are the peppers and the broth. I'm sure I'm messing up the measurements of matza meal and egg too. If you have your measurements, please let me know what they are. To answer your question: what they don't like is the whole thing. I eat it anyway because it tastes good to me. I do know it can be better. I can change the broth, but may not be able to include that much pepper.
