Jerzee Boys - italian hot dogs - Keyport

Having been raised on Dickie Dees in Newark/Bloomfield, it came with the recommendation of my mom. We waited for about 10-15 minutes while these were 'custom-made' (ie - no re-heat drops in oil or microwave). Quite good by bayshore standards. Pizza bread was tasty (still not Calandras but what is?). Potatoes were real potatoes just out of the deep fryer..and NOT FRENCH FRIES (which get my disdain and immediate disqualification!). Onions and peppers were also freshly cooked.

The girl behind the counter was...umm...let's see...yeah...uh-huh...well...wow. Does that count for anything?

Hahahaha......I was wondering where in Keyport this was (thinking down town) then I clicked the link for the website.....yes I know this location well. lol It's a shame nothing seems to make it there have literally been a dozen pizza places there over the past couple of years. I'm always looking for a good Italian hot dog so maybe if I'm in the area.......or visiting their neighbor I will stop in and try one.

Hey, can I sue them for stealing my "Jerzee" name?????? I'm always looking for good IHDs, and they're open late so I can actually get one for dinner. Thanks for the tip. Does anyone know if Hot Dog Bob's in Keyport is still in business? I'd go there once or twice a month, but they close at like 3.

No Jerzee Hot Dog Bob's has been gone for at least 5 years now.. While I haven't tried Jerzeeboyz yet I'd like to add my favorite place for Italian Hot Dogs in the Bayshore area: Jersey Joe's. Kind of off the beaten path - (think residential back road), but still the most authentic IHD I've had in the area. Here's all I could come up with via the 'net.

I stopped in and had a double last night. It was great. I got it without mustard or ketchup. I was expecting your undercooked potatoes Jerzeegirl.. but the ones I had where nicely done. I didn't interview the staff.. but the dogs tasted like Best Brand which many well established places use, and where cooked nicely. A good amount of the needed oil, but not overdone, and this IHD tasted FRESH! The onions and Peppers where probably the freshest I've ever had on an IHD. Obviously cooked when I ordered it.. not sitting around in the oil all day long. It was definatley a monster to eat and a great value. I had to take it out of the aluminum foil covered tray and put it on the paper plate left over from the fried raviolis which where pretty good too!

Defiantly a great IHD all around... but heres the cool part.. since they are a pizza place, they are open late.. so you can now get an IHD at almost any time you want it.. you don't have to rush home from work to get to one of the other places before they close!

My negative critique would be that the menu doesn't offer an option of having one hotdog and one sausage in the sandwich ("combo").. but I'm sure they would do it if I asked them.

Thanks for the update. I guess I hit them on an off day & will try them again. I hope they last. The other IHD/Philly Cheesesteak place I went to closer to my house just went out of business.

Just got done trying a single IHD from Jerzee Boys. I was impressed by the amount of potatoes & onions (I leave off the peppers). There were about 3 slabs of potato mixed in with the smaller sliced potatoes & the onions were way undercooked for my taste. The hot dog & bread were fine, but I wasn't thrilled with the undercooked onions which were sliced more like onion rings than the cut up onions I'm used to on an IHD and the huge slabs of potato. I took the slabs out & cut them up. I will try it again to see if this was just an off day.

Is this place next to Fantasies?

I might have to try this : )

            Anyone try their cheese steak?

Unfortunately it looks like they are done.

It's a shame, their food was good. That location is a death sentence for a food place. I wonder who will be the next to take the chance. I guess the writing was on the wall when they started offering full meal lunch specials for 5 bucks.
