Breads on Oak: definitely worth a visit

Finally managed to make it to Breads on Oak (corner of Oak & Monroe), which is currently open on weekends only right now. Friendly owner said that longer hours are in the near future (a month or so). Excellent breads....I bought a loaf of multigrain levain, ate a big slice of tarte flambee, and sampled a croissant. All were first-rate. Selections included levain, baguettes, olive bread, gruyere loaf, lots of muffins, croisssants, and a small selection of sweet stuff (I didn't look closely at the sweets). Free wi-fi, 50 cent (biodegradable) cups of ice water, and 3 or 4 small tables inside.

  1. Yes! I'm glad you reminded me of this. We got there late on a Saturday and they only had olive bread and brownies left. I thought the prices were a little high but they sure tasted good. Like, OMG good. I sure hope she makes it. Oak Street is a mini version of Magazine now. Pretty cool. Hope it keeps growing! Good Luck!
