Savory Plate Arlington - Savory Food, Sour Service

Swankalicious Aug 20, 2012 04:04 PM

Savory Plate in Arlington Heights has become a Swank family staple for last-minute meals. They serve a variety of flash-frozen meat pies, lasagne, enchiladas, pasta dishes, soups, and sandwiches, as well as tuna, chicken, and shrimp salad. They're also BYOB.

The food is tasty -- we've enjoyed their meat pies and their sandies -- but the service is so off-putting as to make me really feel hesitant each time I walk in. Once, I asked an employee which condiments came with a particular sandwich and she barked, "YOU TELL ME!" Um, did I ask a trick question? Nine times out of ten, a customer walks through the door and the counter staff scowls. It's very odd, and gives the whole place a tired, angry vibe.

Too bad, since it's just the concept Arlington needs!!

We were gifted with some frozen foods from Savory Plate and quite liked them. Chicken enchiladas and veggie stuffed shells. I thought the price was a little steep (it was on the sticker on the container, no real way for the gift-giver to remove it) but then I don't often buy premade meals so I don't have much with which to compare. Neverthreless, the food was indeed tasty and much, much better than something frozen from the grocery store!

I ate there once a couple of months ago. People behind the counter were very friendly and helpful. I'd go so far as to say they seemed eager to please. I just wish my sandwich would have been a bit bigger; it seemed a bit small and skimpy for the price.

We have gotten food before that we enjoyed, but my hubby did feel the service made him uncomfortable. That's really the reason it was never a priority to go back as it was pretty pricey. But the food was very tasty, and maybe warrants another try.

I've had generally positive experiences with them, nothing like you write about. We did a recent picnic at the Rez a few weeks back and they helped us out by heating up our toddler son's food and pretty prompt service. I can't recall being scowled at by any means..
