Detroit - Central American restaurants

  • 3

I know some of the Salvadoran and other Central American restaurants have gone out of business the past few years. What are the best Central American restarants in Detroit? Looking forward to a progressive dinner in a few weeks enjoying this unique cuisine.

thanks in advance for any help you can provide

  1. I really dig El Guanaco, which is Salvadoran. They're located in Troy, at 15 & Livernois. The papusas are heavenly, especially when you pile on some of the spicy slaw and the house-made salsa/pico mix. They have some other Salvadoran food on the menu, as well as some Mexican fare.

Now if we could only get a Peruvian place in town so I could get my fill of Peruvian chicken....

    1. Pupusería y Restaurante Salvadoreño
      3149 Livernois Ave
      Detroit, MI 48210

      Just North of Kronk.

I can only speak of the Papusa's and I will say "Two thumbs up....what a deal! ".

        Agreed—friendly, simple little place.

If you're out west of town, try Pilar's on Liberty west of W. Stadium in Ann Arbor. Spot-on Salvadoran standards.
