For my parents 40th, my brother and I (and our respective spouses) are taking my parents to Palm Springs over Thanksgiving weekend. We are having Thanksgiving at home on the Thursday and then spending Friday thru Sunday in a 3 bedroom condo.

I'm looking for ideas on a special dinner for Saturday night, not just a great restaurant (it doesn't even need to be fancy) but something of a great experience. Maybe something with a small private room or something like that?

You cannot beat Johannes on Indian Canyon Blvd. for a really great evening. Warm room, well lit; attentive staff and a hands on chef who prepares great 'continental' cuisine with a few Austrian dishes thrown in (I love the veal schnitzel). Call well in advance because this is a very popular spot.
Sorry, I don't have the address handy.

Here is a link to PS Restaurants that lists all types of cuisines, prices, etc. I have eaten at La Valluri (pretty pricy but nice) and also at St. James. Hopefully you will find something on the list that appeals to you!

A few suggestions: Shame on the Moon in Rancho Mirage--good creative food and not that expensive and ambiance is wonderful--John Henry's in Palm Springs(if you can get a reservation--usually must book far in advance--if you go, request table outside in garden--very reasonable, large portions, creative cooking. If you like buffets, try the Friday evening seafood buffet at the new casino downtown in Palm Springs--very great variety--really decent food. Uptown Grill in Palm Springs for good food, reasonable prices--they have a pianist so it makes for a relaxing pleasant evening. Le Vallauris I know has been mentioned--it is very pricey--quality seems to vary--especially when they are busy as on holiday weekend---they try to squeeze in too many people--guess it has something to do with Belgium frugality(or is it greed?)--avoid places like Cedar Creek Inn in Palm Springs--food really has gone downhill--pretty setting is only thing going for it. With these suggestions you should be able to have some interesting dining experiences--just be sure to book far in advance.
