Santa Fe Farmer's Market Tamales

We got some tamales for lunch yesterday from the little permanent cafe booth that sells coffee and breakfast burritos in the back of the indoor portion of the farmer's market. While most of the farmer's market seems to be horrifically overpriced ($8/lb for chard?!), at $2.25 apiece, these tamales are a great deal. Got one chicken-green chile and one pork-red chile. The chicken was meh -- not enough filling and the masa was undercooked. The pork, on the other hand, was wonderful. Perfectly cooked and stuffed with spicy filling. Not sure why one was so much better than the other (maybe I just got a bad batch of the chicken), but this is the second time I've ordered the pork and it was excellent the first time as well. Really, at $2.25 a pop, I'm not complaining. Eating pork tamales in the railyard park may become a Saturday morning tradition.

  1. I totally agree! The carne adovada burritos are my second favorite at the market if you want something more substantial.
