Need a nice place for myself and a friend -- preferably medium upscale - meaning no kids- before a concert... No steak restaurants please. Otherwise flexible on type of food.

I'd second Baci. I don't think Vincent's is as good, and when I've been there is has been a kid magnet, especially early in the evening (i.e. before a concert).

I like Major's on East Meadow Avenue in East Meadow. It is less than 10 minutes from the Coliseum.

Great steaks or burgers if you want them.

LL Dent is good. We love Cafe Baci on Old Country Road--nice atmosphere, very friendly service, and delicious Italian food (careful-portions are generous!) It's an easy shot on Merrick to the Turnpike to get to the Coliseum.

I like L.L. Dent on Old Country Road just west of the Meadowbrook. Excellent upscale soul food, simple attractive interior and a very friendly and efficient staff.

There's the Grand Lux Cafe , 516-741-0096 near the Roosevelt Field mall. It's an upscale version of Cheesecake Factory, the food and desserts are more of what you would expect at a medium upscale restaurant. There's also Vincents Clam Bar nearby, I haven't eaten there but have heard good things about it.

Grand Lux is disgusting. Went there once because I'd been to a decent one in Florida. Seasons 52 at the mall is decent. George Martin in Rockville Centre is good bistro food. LL Dent always gets very high marks. Cafe Baci serves ginormous portions of food that's mediocre to very good, depending on what you order.
