Goodbye, F.I.G, *sniff*

I heading down the home stretch. I'm almost all packed, Pod is scheduled, and I have made my last trip to Goodwill. I hope. I wanted to visit FIG one more time, and we did last night. Of course, it met expectations and then some.

There were three of us. We shared two appetizers: the Brown Shrimp Remoulade, served on a nice John's Island heirloom tomato (a real drippy one-yum) and the pate. I will surely miss that pate.

It was hard to pick an entree. Since my friend decided to get the triggerfish, I got the grouper so we could share. It came with little butterbeans in a light sauce I could never hope to replicate. My other friend got the tagliolini with stone crab, which was as rich as it sounds. That nice bottle of Albarino made it all just right.

I had a moment of self-doubt on my way across the bridge going home, but only one. I know people with beach houses. I'll be back.

I'll be in Charleston tomorrow with the wife. We were going to do something casual after a day at the beach (Hominy? The Wreck? SeeWee?) but we might have to clean up and try to find some seats at the bar at FIG. I love their menu with what's available from land and sea this time of year.

        1. re: mikeh

mikeh, there were some great options. It was hard to decide. That nice beardy bartender made my friend a delicious cocktail called Danish Porn Star." It might be refreshing after the beach, where it is currently hot.

But a nice throwdown at Seewee or the Wreck is always good. I'm getting over the the Wreck this next week too. How can I not?

    2. Awww Sue, I know this is a bittersweet departure for you. Your always helpful Charleston area recs will certainly be missed but we are all looking forward to your posts about what deliciousness you discover in NC. And I'm sure you'll keep up with all that's good in Chucktown. xoxo

      1. Sounds like you had a great last meal in Chucktown. You certainly picked a great restaurant to have it at. Traveling mercies, Sue.

        1. Where are you off to? I will certainly miss your charleston area expertise.

Wow, thanks. I will have to come over for work sometimes. I'll need your help- I get lost in Raleigh anymore!

                1. re: Sue in Mt P

Unfortunately so do I! But I can help a lot with Chapel Hill, and a bit with Durham too. Nothing like F.I.G. though, at least not that I've found.

                  1. re: LulusMom

You are so right. I should have worn my red shoes. "There's no place like FIG, There's no place like FIG", lol.

Love it! Hope Greensboro turns technicolor for you.

Oh gosh, that's great. Thanks! If I come to Chapel Hill, I'll be cut out of the will. Oh, look, I made a rhyme.

If/when you go to Chapel Hill to eat, I'd love to hear your thoughts on Lantern.

My husband works at Duke. He just wears a face-mask when he gets to the CH border. ; )

good one. I'm totally in denial. I expect to keep getting Charleston help from Sue just like before. I know you'll be back enough to keep yourself in tune w/ the Charleston scene. Cheers!

Hahaha! JeffC, I'll try to sneak out without my Dukey parents knowing about it. ;)

danna, I'm a little in denial too. It's hard to deny, though, with boxes all over the place. I sure hope to keep up.
