The Lynnwood store had a small sign saying 'chile roasting every Saturday and Sunday' near the roaster. They were offering samples of the roasted peppers wrapped in a tortilla. They had mild and medium ones out, with talk of hot ones to come.

I bought a few fresh ones to 'roast' on my butane hotplate later.

very cool. thanks for the report paul. i think i'll wander down there tomorrow.

i hear the hot ones are killer hot!

          3. Burien Albertson's on 1st Ave S @128th is doing a roasting event on the 27th & 28th. I believe the price is $29.00 a case, roasted. Will double check and correct if this is not right.

Bought these last year, and wished I had bought 2 cases!

I was there today--the sign at the entrance now says they'll be roasting there on Saturday 8/25 from 9 am to 7 pm.

Last year they did the same thing, and the guy working the roaster was a farmer who grows some of the chiles that Albertsons buys. He drove up from New Mexico with his roaster on a trailer to do these promotions at Albertsons stores. He was passing out samples and recipes in the parking lot. Nice guy, very chatty, very proud of his chiles!

            2. Whole foods Bellevue has had them all week. 1.99 fresh and 2.99 roasted

I just bought the plain Hatch chilis today at the Bellevue store. Making a Hatch and potato casserole tonite to serve alongside some grilled chicken. The Bellevue store also had golden trumpet mushrooms on sale for $5.99 (huge sale since they're normally $14.99/lb). They're sauteing on the stove as I type!

Care to share your casserole recipe?

                  1. re: christy319

Folks, firecracker did share the recipe for the Hatch chile casserole. We split it off to our Home cooking board, where hopefully other hounds might find it useful.

That thread can be found here: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/864316
