Mezze - Fantastic

Finally made it to Mezze. For a board obsessed with Red Medicine, Animal and Gjelina, I am surprised there is not more love for Mezze. Every dish we had was special.

Tavbouli - Great
Chopped Chicken Liver - probably the best ever
octopus - outstanding
Cornish hen - as good as anywhere
Tomato Flatbread - good but should have gone lamb sausage

Drinks were great to. All fresh juices and good pours. Service was outstanding and spot on. Great vibe too. Guess I liked it.

Wanted to try the sea urchin, but the rest of the party nixed it. Next time for sure.

  1. Sounds great! I've been wanting to try this place for some time now, but I keep getting thrown off course by so many other places to eat.

I'll make sure to make it out there soon!

Me too. Almost did again last night. This is going to be a regular spot.

Went last night for the first time and had a wonderful meal. Such great dishes as the quail, grilled octopus, snail kabob, chicken liver, trout, the lamb sausage flatbread, the pastrami sandwich, knishes, Lamb risotto, Shawarma & some tasty deserts too, Wonderful service. If you have not been here what are you waiting for? Trust me, you will not be disappointed. Fantastic is correct!

    2. Previous reviews went something like this:

and the initial buzz was that it's a pricey ($50/pp++) hit or miss. So I guess it isn't that surprising. Glad to hear it's much improved though!

Could not have been better. Interestingly, it did not seem to be a lamb heavy menu - and I like lamb.

My previous post was historically accurate but is hereby redacted. Mezze is now great.

holy cow, i understood every word of that. huzzah.

              yay.

After your encouragement earlier this week ( http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/8633... ), I decided to write complete sentences, but only until the end of this week.

its been a good week. thank you.

          2. The sea urchin is fantastic. I also love the Shawarma. Though the food is delicious, by the time the check comes I feel like I'm spending just a little too much.

Really wanted to try the sea urchin but it was not on the menu that night. That's really just an excuse of mine to return really really soon.

            2. We have been there twice. First time last feb and second time was last may. We enjoyed everything the second time more than the first time. We really loved the Tabouli so much, I had to make my own right away. Really enjoyed the white trout also. The asparagus dish was great too. Unfortunately they didn't have the sea urchin the night we dined there. The risotto was OK. Enjoyed the shawarma, bean foul, blue prawn, foie gras and merguez flat bread. Rebel fries was OK. We also had the interesting sumac 75 cocktail.

The cocktails were very good. They make a Not So Bloody Mary that is almost like a gazpachio bloody mary - very crisp and fresh. Also, a fresh grapefruit, lemon and vodka drink that was very good. Personally, I dont mix, so mine always is done right.

              1. just visited mezze and i was blown away.

everything was great from the knishes to the sweetbreads. i'd highly recommend this place to anyone.

their version of a bloody mary was really great. using tomato water and celery foam was very unique, yet extremely familiar.

                great place. a real gem

Going tonight. Anxious to try the lamb and uni dishes. How are the Syrian Fries?

                  1. re: BSW6490

I happen to love those fries, but last time I went they weren't serving them on the dinner menu, only bar? I don't know if that's changed as I went immediately after they implemented their new bar menu.

                    1. re: baloney

the syrian fries were being served when i was there. i didn't get them. everything i tried was great, especially the green egg shakshouka with sweetbreads. then again, the chicken liver was good. as was the corn.

i agree with thor, i can't believe that this place isn't more hyped considering how good it is.

                        1. re: BSW6490

nope. was on the list of things to try but got full. had the tomato flatbread, chicken livers, green egg shakshouka, corn, green beans, and knish.

a tiny house baked challah comes with the chicken livers.

the tomato water bloody mary is very good.

                          1. re: BSW6490

i've been back recently and i have now tried the syrian fries and sea urchin. the uni was great. nice play off the cous cous which was cooked like a risotto.

the syrian fries were good too.

the standout this time was the dry aged rib eye. just straight fantastic.

                  2. Had another great meal at Mezze. Still no sea urchin though. Lamb cheek was outstanding, as was the trout, tabouli and summer squash flatbread. Service was very good as well.

That white trout was a wonderful dish, fried so perfectly and lightly.
