Making our first trip to SF with a toddler and a little worried about where to eat

Hey there SF hounds...

My husband and I have had several wonderful trips to SF in recent years, but this will be our first time as parents and yes, we're taking the kiddo with us. He'll be 18 months old by the time we travel and I'd like to enjoy some good, non-chain food while we're there.

Only problem is, most of the places we've loved in SF--Gary Danko, Boulevard, Frascati, luella--aren't exactly places I'd feel comfortable taking our son. He's pretty generally well-behaved, but he's a toddler, so it's hit and miss.

I've searched the board and seen the recommendation for trying to eat early (we will!) and I saw Ideale got a few recommendations as being toddler friendly, so I think we'll try that one night. And my husband--the non-adventurous eater--will appreciate Italian.

What else should we try to hit up where people won't roll their eyes when we walk in with little guy in tow? We never made it to Zuni on our last visit out to SF, but looking at their menu, will that be too much Italian?

Would he be welcome at Frascati early? (It really is one of my SF favorites!) And my mom is coming with us to help out with the babe, so we'll get one grown-up night out. I figure I'll decide on that later...

We're staying in the Fisherman's Wharf area for the first time--figured it'd be easier with him--but we're not opposed to hopping in cabs or taking public transportation to get to good places.

Thanks much!

    Hello there,
You should go to Baby Blues BBQ on Mission and Precita. It s casual and super kid friendly. Food and service are great. They even have a Kid's Corner with bunch of toys for kids to play while parents eat!

Baby Blues BBQ is okay, but hardly a place I would recommend for visitors who can probably get far more interesting BBQ elsewhere and whole lot cheaper. Dinner for two at Baby Blue set my BF and I back almost $60 (without alcohol) and I think there are much better places to eat that will take kids...

Really? I m a huge fan. $60 gets you a lot of food there. We usually share one of the large platters that come with 2 sides and corn bread for around $25. My 2 year old loves it because there are usually other kids to play with in their kid area and the staff always entertains her.
