cooked pudding

I made cooked pudding last night & didn't put enough milk in it. I didn't realize it 'til it cooked, too, fast & after cooling it was really thick! I put it in the frig. I am wondering if there is anything I can do to it now to make the consistency like pudding should be or is it ruined. As it is, it will be like eating fudge but not as good! Thanks

Well, I tried the Reddi Whip! You have to use a lot to make the pudding a mousse. If I had real whipped cream, I think it would have worked better. It tastes good without adding anything which I should have tried first! I might mix in some milk with a small dish & try that, too, & will let you know! Thanks to all! It's been fun!

I don't remember how it started, but as kids we always had milk poured over our chocolate pudding. Did the same thing with Jell-O too.....

Yes, same here, but not for jello.

Come to think of it, we poured milk on ours, too, as kids. I tried stirring milk in it & think I put just a little, too, much in it. It tasted OK. The Reddi Whip was better, but I am sure, real whipped cream would have been the best! Thanks all!

Yeah, Reddi-Whip is mostly very expensive white air. But I think partially whipping real cream, blending in the pudding, then whipping again till the texture was good would have worked well.

You could always fold in some whipped cream (lightly sweetened?) and make it mousse-like. If you made the pudding from scratch, I'm not sure adding more liquid would work. The flour (or cornstarch) has absorbed what it will absorb. You may end up with an undesireable texture. Personally, I'd go the mousse-like route and maybe even use it for trifle.

I do like laliz' suggestion of topping it with whipped cream and falling face first into it. ;-)

Ditto on the whipped cream, that was my first thought--gotta love that mousse!

KSlink Thank you! The whipped cream has it! I'll let everyone know how it turns out!

Thanks! I thought about dishing up a small bowl & try stirring in a little milk or stirring in Reddi Whip to see how it would come out. I better do that today, since, it's been 2 days already! No it's from a box!

Is it chocolate? If it is, I would just put whipped cream on it and fall face first into it.

Is it "pourable" at all, or is it really a solid block? If you can move it at all (maybe let it come to room temperature if it's too thick right out of the fridge), I'd dump it in an oreo pie shell, top it with whipped cream, and have pudding pie!

That is a good suggestion. I make Chocolate Cream Pie by making cooked chocolate pudding from mix only with somewhat less milk (2 boxes of pudding with 3 cups of milk instead of 4) then when it's cool I put whipped cream on top. Better than you'd expect.

Just a suggestion (never tried yet):
Put it back on the stove and use a heavy whisk to gradually whisk in more milk while GENTLY reheating. Whisk slowly, unless you want bubbles. When starting to simmer, continue to stir and cook for a couple minutes.

Let us know how it turns out. GOOD LUCK :) !

I just might try this. I make the boxed pudding & use my microwave. It always comes out good, unless I make a mistake like this one! Once, I grabbed up instant pudding at the store & didn't realize it. Then I wondered why it looked nasty when I stirred it & after it was cooked. It was lumpy & I ended up throwing it out!

Just try adding a bit more milk and stirring it and incorporate it with the rest of the pudding.

I thought of doing this, but wondered how it would turn out & thought someone on here might have tried it! Great suggestion!
