Best Tamales??

I've looked at a lot of the Tex-Mex places recommended by this board, but a lot of them don't feature tamales.

What's the best place in Dallas-Ft. Worth area for tamales?

It sounds like you are looking for a sit down restaurant; not a pick up tamale place. If so, try Mi Cocina - they have a tamale dinner...only pork, though.

I love the ones they sell at Luna's tortilla factory off harry hines in dallas. They make them fresh daily and sell them year round. They are very good. Make sure to get some of their homemade sala verde to go with them.

@Tiger66, Tamales are readily available around Christmas. Because of the labor/time intensive process of making them, there are only a few good options year round. However, around Christmas, you'll find them everywhere as that is when most Mexican families get together and churn 'em out.

Drive to Tommy Tamales in Grapevine - also found at Grapevine's Farmers Market. Owner Steve procures them from different local sources after first giving them a taste test with friends. Sold by the dozen for take-out, several favorites are available fresh, but many are frozen. If you call ahead, he'll have them thawed, heated and ready to eat. Don't neglect trying the salsas and jellies which are also on-hand..... and leave time for some chit-chat from Steve and Jan.

Put these guys on your list for Christmas seasonal favorites.

I would have to agree with the Tommy's Tamales. I have had them at La Poplar, The Tamale Guy and other not so trusty vendors and I really like Tommy's the best. I still have yet to really scope out most of the options in Fort Worth but Tommy's is a solid recommendation.

I just had my last three of their Habanero Pork tamales for lunch. Really tasty. Might need to pick up some more at the Farmers Market tomorrow.

You know they have a permanent location on NW just west of Main Street. And that reminds me I need to go by and pick some up for a trip to Lubbock.

Yeah, but I think their hours line up with when I'm at work during the week. And if I'm going on Saturday I might as well go the Farmers Market for other stuff anyways.

I went in yesterday to get tamales and beware - they always have some type of dip for tasting. Yesterday, it was hatch chili jack cheese sauce/dip. Yep. Had to buy some. Easy enough to make, but if you're there already and it's there all-ready......

Dang it's good with the hatch chili flavor coming through.
