ISO Recommendations for an Electric Griddle/Sandwich Press
I need to replace my electric griddle and thought it might be nice to get one of those combination appliances that can be a grill, griddle and sandwich press. Based on the reviews from America's Test Kitchen, I got the Cuisinart Griddler. It was a major fail because it never got hot enough. I had albino pancakes and soggy grilled cheese that never browned. So, my question is this -- is there another brand/model that works better? I don't mind paying a bit more if I'm going to wind up with a better product.
Before anyone asks, I live in an apartment with a rather anemic gas stove. I prefer an electric griddle because I get more even browning on things like pancakes than I do with my CI griddle on the stove.
Also, I'm open to the idea that a multi-purpose appliance isn't going to do any one thing well and that I should just replace my electric griddle with another electric griddle.
Do you have a George Foreman or similar type grill? If so, use it for your panini and simply buy a dedicated griddle.
The Presto 07047 Cool Touch Electric Griddle is the highest rated electric griddle on Amazon. This is the griddle I have and it works great.
This is really a first rate sturdy home sandwich press with fully adjustable temperature settings and heavy-duty components. It runs about $200, but it'll last forever and it'll brown anything you like: Avantco 13" x 8 3/4" Grooved Top & Bottom Panini Sandwich Grill 120V (SG-811E)
