kid friendly ice cream parlor/soda fountain

I'd like to take my 4 year old daughter into Manhattan for a real ice cream sundae. We live in Brooklyn and are very familiar with Blue Marble, Ample Hills, and even Hinch's, but we are looking for a "City" adventure with some of her older cousins. I've scanned a few similar threads and mostly see recommendations for more adult ice cream places with flavors like black sesame or basil (yum for the grownups, but probably not for the kids). Any recs for a real classic ice cream place (not gelato) anywhere in Manhattan? Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm wary of Serendipity because of the legendary waits. I guess I was thinking classic or old timey for me and the other adults, but kids don't really notice those things. I'd just like to find a nice sit-down place with a touch of character rather than a take-out (like Baskin Robins).

Lula's Sweet Apothecary is very old timey, moreso than Van Leeuwen. Both have seating but are counter service.

Also Lula's is vegan, but otherwise it fits your requirements the best.

Now this is a situation where Serendipity might be the best choice.

Maybe Cones on Bleecker? The ice cream is good, and it definitely has a retro vibe (although more 80s than cutesy ice cream parlor, ha).

If you don't mind a restuarant and the flavors aren't too gourmet for the four year old, I can see these working for brunch/lunch:
          DBGB
          Peels
          ABC Kitchen
          Pearl Oyster Bar

          There's also Van Leeuwen.

None of these are really classic, though.
