Looking For Kalijira rice

Jim Leff Aug 12, 2012 06:27 PM

I was a big fan of Kalijira rice, a tiny and delicious variety (greatly prized in Bengal, where it's apparently known as "The Prince of Rice") which was exclusively sold by Lotus Foods (the people who sell those fancy little bags of esoteric rices at Whole Foods and other stores).

Lotus hasn't carried it in years, and I'm looking for another source. Any suggestions?

I used to buy it all the time and even ordered it in bulk from Lotus foods years ago. I haven't bought from these but google came up with

Thanks, rasputina! Not sure how I missed all those links! Spelling alternatives, I guess...

I am not familiar with this rice but I am curious why it appears to be named "black cumin rice"?

I seem to recall that Kalustyan's carries it. At least I bought it there some years ago.
