We are looking for an informal but great place to have lunch in or near San Rafael. We'll be driving from the airport in Oakland.

I lived in San Rafael for 9 years. 4th St. starting at Lincoln and running West for about 9 blocks is the main drag in SR and is literally lined with restaurants of all variety. You can take your pick. Most of them are good or better and moderately priced. I would, however, suggest that you post your query on the San Francisco Board since Marin County and San Rafael are part of the Bay Area and usually discussed on that board. They can give you much better (and more accurate) info than here on the CA board.
