Boston Chowhounds:PLSE. HELP! Improve Informal Guide: Ethnic, JP, Dorch.
Last yr i put together my own (not representing CH) guide to historic areas and restnts in Boston- for CH visitors.
I have been reworking it (hopefully an improvement) but could really use your help with some of it if you have time. ** I'm thinking of this as a simple primer- that will prompt people to ask further advice/questions to the CH community on the boards.**
It would be used as a link, not cut and pasted in full to each inquiry.
Because some visiting CHs (or new CH residents)are focused on ethnic food(and not on city history or finer dining) I started to put together a separate 'Boston Areas and Ethnic Restaurants' list for them. But so many of you are aficianados in various ethnic cuisines... I would really appreciate it if you would offer supplements/replacements to the lists i've started. (p.s. I have already done cambridge and somerville in another section of the guide.)
NOTE**** Because I'm not aiming here for much text (unless someone wants to do that, but i'm pooped), I'm keeping this to lists (but some mention of special 'don't miss' dishes would be helpful .) I'm not trying to cover every ethnic base, just those restaurants that would really be special enough to send someone to IF THEY ONLY HAD A FEW DAYS HERE! Really- the best of the best. I try to remember that some visitors come here and have never had szechuan food while others come from a place where they have tons of great szechuan(or mexican or whatever), so that's why I want to keep the listed places to a minimum.

Turkish, Lebanese, Egyptian, Israeli, Indian, Pakistani, Thai, Chinese, Szechuan, Cambodian, Vietnamese, Burmese, Russian, Japanese, Brazilian..........If Boston has an ethnic group, this is where you will find its restaurant contingent. Not all are worthwhile but here are some that are:
Japanese- Shiki (noted for its many Japanese home style dishes, and sake flights, in addition to sushi)
Middle Eastern- Boston Kabob Company, Garlic 'n Lemons
Egyptian- Azama Grill
Thai- Thai North, S&I
Taiwanese- JoJo Taipei
Korean- Buk Kyung
Chinese- Shanghai Gate
Vietnamese Banh Mi- Pho Viet
Burmese- Yoma
Irish- Matt Murphy's
Pizza- Stone Hearth, Otto's, and Ecco
Deli- Zaftig's
Frozen Yoghurt (many Asian flavors too)- Mixx
Ice Cream- JP Licks
BBQ- SoulFire
