Cipollini onions - side dish ideas

I picked up some awesome looking cipollini at the FM today. I was intending to make cipollini in agrodolce from the San Francisco farmers market cookbook. However, that requires about a 45 minute stint in a hot oven. It's hot here and looks like it will be for quite some time so I think the oven is out. Anyone have any other ideas? I could probably do something similar by braising but I'm open to other suggestions.

I can't think of any way to prepare Cipollini onions that isn't going to heat up your kitchen. It's the caramelization that brings out their fabulous flavor and you can't caramelize them without heat. Roasting them drizzled in olive oil along with some Roma tomatoes or Brussels sprouts or with a balsamic glaze makes a wonderful side dish. They're pretty versatile so they'll make a fine accompaniment to any roasted vegetable dish you might choose. Try them, caramelized of course, on a hamburger. Yummmmmmmmmmmmmm.............

Haven't seen the agrodolce recipe, but I love doing them from a Batali recipe for pork chops. Blanch them first for a minute so you can peel them easily. Then sauté with sweet & hot cherry peppers, garlic, balsamic vinegar & fresh oregano, until soft. Yummy over any grilled meat , or even grains like polenta.

I agree. I grew them this year just to make this.
