Mid-priced, romantic but not overtly, out of the way place for Sat nite below Canal street?

I'm looking for a place that doesn't scream romantic, more like cozy and out of the way, between bway and canal and battery park...any ideas? thanks in advance!

If you enjoy vegan, Rawlicious on Centre St. by Grand.
City Hall is wonderful but I can't really call it "mid priced."

Vin et fleur, a little north, on Thompson between broom and spring, nice, small, cozy, modern French bistro. Good food, and a really really nice ambience..

I can confirm that both the food and the atmosphere at Vin et Fleur are very nice. One of my favorite small places when you want something good to eat, but don't want to go all out. Very good old and a lovely atmosphere. Decent little wine list, too, for it's size.

Max would work. It's off the radar and quiet. Very pleasant atmosphere. The food isn't spectacular but it's fine for what it is - neighborhood Italian. Walkers, a wonderful old atmospheric bar, is about a block away. Have a drink there before dinner.

The link below from NY Magazine has a mini review and a slide show so you can get a feel for the ambiance.

thanks, Bob! That's excellent...I love Walkers, but I worry that on weekend nights it gets alot of obnoxious "new Tribeca" yuppie types...thanks again so much

Glad to help. I know those people you're talking about at Walkers. Sometimes they're there, sometimes not. Since it's August maybe they'll all be out in the Hamptons.

Hitting Walkers at around 4:00PM on a Saturday is delightful.
