SJ / Campbell
I am looking for place in either Campbell, of SJ that can hold anywhere from 30-50 people. Full bar, & food. It's been 17 years since I have been back to SJ, and I'm trying to organize a quick get together for Thursday the 23rd. Preferably a bar with a food menu, that won't mind people just showing up that night. I don't want to make reservations, have to agree to a bar guarantee, or have to set up a group rate for anything. I just want to hang out with my friends that I haven't seen since 1995, and have 2, maybe 3 cocktails, a little food, and then go crash out....Please help. I don't want to to end up at Britannia Arms on DJ night...
The bartenders/servers will be compensated accordingly.
I may be wrong but trying to just walk in to a place with 30+ people without a reservation is not fair to the establishment or your friends. Service will be poor and slow as most places are staffed for regular night patterns. There are many places that could handle your number but not without some warning.
Upstairs at Sonoma Chicken Coop, Campbell. Full bar. Great for big get togethers. Just call em.
Hi First time poster,
Not giving a restaurant a heads-up for that size crew is really a tall order. If you're stuck on no advance warning, you probably should hit something like the Yard House in Santana Row, or Faultline Brewery if it's not too far away. Calling places first and simply telling them your plight is a far better idea - you'll probably get a corner set aside for you, and given the economy these days, they'll be happy to work without guarantees or that kind of hassle - probably just ask you to run a tab guaranteed with credit card at the beginning of the evening.
If you're up in Palo Alto, I think Old Pros is the only place that can comfortably absorb that number - you can easily get 20 to 30 around one of their big tables, and they have surprisingly food & full bar. Out of the geo range of your request, though.
One thing I forgot to mention was that 35-50 was my MAX worst case scenario. It will be way lower. When I call places asking if they can handle a decent sized crowd, I am always told that I need to make a reservation, and there will be a HUGE gratuity included in the bill...I don't mind tipping for good service, but it shouldn't be included, nor expected EVER. They basically, they have told me, that weather the service is good or not, the gratuity was included in the bill. No exceptions.
Decided a few things...
Going to try for Trial's Pub in SJ
Going to call them, and see what's what..
Going to have a good time...Thanks for the replies...
