Eiffel Tower Restaurant Tasting Menu (notes/impressions)

My husband and I make it out to Vegas about once a year, sometimes twice.
While there, we like to do just one ‘splurge’ meal. (If we could afford more, we would, but alas, we’re not the Rockefellers)
We had a 7:30 Wednesday night reservation at the Eiffel Tower restaurant. We decided on that as our one ‘splurge’ meal in Vegas based on a very strong recommendation from my husbands coworker. She raved about the food, the atmosphere, the view and last but not least, the soufflé!

We arrived early and thought we’d sit at the bar and have a cocktail, however we were asked if we would like to sit right away. It looked like those up-front seats were going quickly, so we agreed. And then were placed at a table which was basically right behind the service station, so every server for that area had to walk past and brush by. Cest’ la vie, right? this is “Paris” and what a romantic restaurant with a romantic view…

Glass of wine? Don’t mind if I do…. Nearly choked at the wine prices, but hey… we’re on vacation, right?

Had a glass of white, Hubby opted for a scotch

On the recommendation of the co-worker we opted for the tasting menu

I made mental notes of the meal and then jotted them down when we got home, so here goes

Amuse Bouche:

A profiterole filled with foigras
A mousse of goat cheese with pistachios
An oyster with Meyer lemon foam and caviar
(west cost oyster... takes a bit of getting used to for an East Coast gal, totally different flavor, I can almost taste salmon)
They were all delicious, but we thought the profiterole and the goat cheese mousse to be tad heavy for an amuse bouche

First course:
Warm Maine lobster salad water melon tartar, pistachio vinaigrette
The lobster was tasty, but a bit overcooked, the watermelon tartar was surprising, both sweet and a bit savory… we enjoyed the pistachio vinaigrette, (but then I started noticing they use alot of pistachio at this restaurant)

Second course:
Corn soup, manilla clams, potato confit bacon lardoons
The soup was silky and sweet and tasted intensely of corn, the little bites of crunchy bacon and slightly chewy salty clams were a nice texture and flavor contrast… (The potato was unnecessary, and a tad gummy if you ask me but who am I to judge?)

Third Course:
Olive oil poached halibut, herbed couscous, tomato basil
The fish on this plate was firm and snowy white and perfect. We weren’t that thrilled with the herbed couscous. Honestly, the texture was off, and it tasted just like they put a dollop of grainy pesto on the plate… the tomatoes were very good with the fish

Roasted rack of lam, tomato tart, tarragon jus
The lamb had a dusting of fennel on the outside which was unusual and went very well with the licorice flavor of the tarragon jus. We both ordered medium rare and it was perfectly cooked. So tender, you could (and I did) cut it with a fork. Probably the best lamb I’ve had… ever. I plan on trying to re-create this and the corn soup at home very soon.
The tomato tart also had eggplant and I absolutely adored it, my husband is not an eggplant fan, so it was an unpleasant surprise for him. (If I weren't so full at that point, I would have eaten his)

Dessert… we could have gone with the “Effel Tower Desserts” which I think is just a plate of petit fours, which I’m sure were wonderful, but OH NO

Piggiges that we are, we decided on getting a soufflé, each

I got chocolate (of course) mister got pistachio

Mine came with a chocolate crème on the side, misters came with a pistachio crème anglaise… I could have just drank that down by itself, it was OUT OF THIS WORLD!

Both souffle’s were perfect: light and airy and warm and fluffy and rich and my mouth is watering just thinking about them

Overall, it was a very good meal
Have we had better? Yes
Did it live up to the raving reviews we got from husband's coworker? Not really, but it was an enjoyable meal nonetheless.
(next visit to Vegas, I'd like to try Aureole)

  1. Sounds like you got the same table they tried to seat us at! We asked for another table and they did oblige, but not without some unwarranted "wait time" back at the Host/Hostess station. (There were numerous tables with better views available even when we had finished dining.) Overall it sounds like your dining experience was a bit better than our last one at the Eiffel Tower, but we did not go the tasting route. We may go back and give it another try.

      The seating problem seems to be a standard hazard at many restaurants these days, It's gotten so bad that I almost object to the first table we're offered before we even see it. Usually offered something right outside the restrooms and next to a serving station.

    2. Good thing you like pistachio! The souffle sounds great- Does anyone know if you can go to the restaurant for dessert only? Most restaurants are fine with that but this one could be an exception.

        hi sarabeths, yes you can get just dessert there I think at the bar
