Looking for Almond Tarts in NYC
Does anyone remember the almond tarts that used to be sold in NYC delis in the 1970s and 80s? They were about 3" across and 2" high and had a pastry tart shell. Inside was a wonderful chewy almond cake-like concoction, and the top was golden brown and sort of crackled like a very dry desert. They were sold in the kind of place one would go to get your morning coffee and buttered roll for breakfast, and were always near the cash register, wrapped in cellophane and ready to go! I wish I knew what they were called and where to find them as they were THE BEST!
