Silo Country Store (Queensbury (Lake George)) review

Let me begin by saying this was my second vacation to Lake George. I went last year around the same time. While I love how relaxing and peaceful the area is, it is well known the food sitiuation is quite terrible. After spending the weekend having nothing but dissapointing meals and desserts I nearly gave up. Finally today before heading home I used a phone app to find nearby country stores. I was hoping to find a good hot sauce or salsa. After reading reviews of Silo, seeing people mention how good the food was, I decided to make a lunch out of it and headed over. It is literally 2 minutes outside of Lake George, in an old barn looking building. The staff was friendly, service a little slow but I think that's just how it is upstate. I ordered a sandwich with turkey and ham with melted swizz all on french toast. I opted for the sweet potato fries. My sandwich was amazing, piled high with meat, the sweet potato fries were among the best i've ever had. Came with a side of house made raspberry dipping sauce, also amazing. My girlfriend got the hot turkey sandwich, the gravy was phenomenal, also a huge portion. All though the store didn't offer many localy made items, and I left empty handed, the food was truly excellent and if I ever return to Lake George I will be back here as well.

  1. Thanks for the review of the Silo. Have gone by it a hundred times, but never been in the place. Will have to give it a try. Before you give up on our upstate "terrible food situation," you might want to come down to Saratoga Springs (which has been covered extensively in this board) and try out some of the cuisine. . As far as your comment about "slow upstate service," I'll just file in my downstate chauvinism folder, mostly filled with comments from folks who think the world ends north of the Harlem River.

lol don't get me wrong, I don't live in the city, I'm in Putnam County, just observed very slow service at many of the places I visited, and it wasn't a problem either, I was on Vacation! No rushing was needed :)
