Anyone been to Aquavit for Restaurant Week?
I haven't been in years, but peeked in to see their new location ("new" - but they've been there for years by now). For RW, they're doing a smorgasbord buffet. It looked fantastic - mostly cold salads, with a few hot things, like their meatballs - and I had visions of myself going back for 14 helpings. Has anyone tried it?
The buffet it's pretty nice, different kind of herrings, gravlax, the meatballs are great, three different desserts, etc etc
It's still a buffet, they can call it smorgasbord but it still feel like a corporate buffet...
Way different from the real aquavit experience.
The restaurant is actually separate, the front room for the normal restaurant service while the back room, past the bar, for restaurant week only.
Personally, I think it's worth a try, especially if you like scandinavian food.. Going back for many helpings of wonderful herrings, gravlax and meatballs is not something you would do every day at home.. ;-)
I wouldn't recommend it to people who never had scandinavian food and are looking for a "height-cuisine scandinavian experience" in new york.
