Bistro 45 - What's going on?
Had a 7pm reservation tonight (Sunday) at Bistro 45 in Pasadena. Have never been there before, but heard good things. Showed up...restaurant empty - no sign, door locked, no live answer on the phone. Does anyone know if this is some type of glitch, or are they closed for good?. 2 other groups also arrived for 7pm reservations and walked away. Phone answers with recorded message, but no indication of problems.
Yes, Bistro 45 is closed for approximately two months for renovations, and yes, we did screw up on Sunday, August the 6th, the day that we closed. We neglected to pull the recorded message (which has since been updated with current information) and also to place a sign on the door. We reached out to each of the customers that we could, apologizing with much organic egg yolk on our face. Hopefully, we can make it up to anyone that we inconvenienced, inviting all from that day to our grand reopening. We will again reach out to each of them when our reopening date is established. Thank you to all so much for all the loyalty and support these past 22 years. We look forward to bringing something new and wonderful to the Bistro again!
I'm on the email list (and also dined there for a wine dinner on 07/23). They're closing for a couple of months to do some needed renovations (including systems stuff like plumbing and heating/cooling). They do plan to re-open, although the owner explained that they are also looking into new locations.
Regardless, they should have notified people who had prior reservations about the closing.
I don't know what may be going on with Bistro 45, but the same owner has opened aka in the old Gordon-Biersch space in old town Pasadena. We had gone there for dinner on Friday, and he was there. This was our second visit there, and we saw him both times (and he spent some time with is talking about sourcing his food).
I wonder if he is planning to close Bistro 45 and put all his time in aka!
