Le Cirque - Dress Code?
My friends and I are going to Le Cirque on Friday night for Restaurant Week. I've been to Le Cirque before and know that jackets are required. I've made my friends all aware of this as well. However, my parents have an Italian houseguest who has been staying with us since June and they'd like me to bring him along, which I don't mind doing, but I haven't mentioned this to him yet because I'm not sure if he has the proper attire to wear to Le Cirque and it is for this reason that I'm wondering what else, if anything, they require, besides a jacket.
Last I went to Le Cirque, I wore khakis, a button down shirt, shoes and a jacket. The 21 Club also requires jackets and when we took our houseguest there back in June, he had to borrow a jacket from a friend of mine. Despite the 21 Club having a no jeans and sneakers policy, he still wore jeans and sneakers and was admitted. However, when I say jeans and sneakers, picture what an Italian guy who lives in Italy would wear - we're not talking about wearing Gap jeans and tennis shoes, but nice jeans and upscale sneakers, but certainly not a pair of Cole Haan or Allen Edmonds shoes.
So, the 21 Club let him in like that. I've also noticed that when I've dined at Nougatine and Jean-Georges, they have a no jeans policy, but I've seen jeans in the Nougatine dining room at dinner and at the Jean-Georges dining room at lunch. Haven't had dinner at Jean-Georges, so I don't know whether jeans are allowed for dinner, but given the somewhat lax rules that the above three restaurants seem to have, I'm wondering if Le Cirque would let him in, or if he'd have to find other clothes to wear. Borrowing a jacket would be easy, but if he needed a shirt, pants or shoes (he might have a shirt), it might be tough since he's a big guy in terms of width, but not height - don't mean to be mean here, but it might just work out that he'll have to buy something to wear if he wants to come.
I guess it'd be easier to call the restaurant and find out, but just wanted to check here first. Has anyone seen jeans or fancy kicks in the Le Cirque dining room at dinner?
