Any recommendations for the Cushing/Friendship area of Maine?

I know that there are plenty of good restaurants near or along the coast to the east (St. George Peninsula, Thomaston, Rockland, Camden) and in the other direction to the southwest (Damariscotta, Newcastle, Pemaquid Peninsula, Wiscasset).

But are there any notable restaurants, seafood shacks, bakeries, cafes, ice cream parlors, or roadside stands on the quiet peninsula where Cushing and Friendship are located? I've been looking into this and can't really find anything online.

I did read on another thread that Amy Upham (who apparently makes great pies) is based in Cushing and sells her baked goods at Thomaston Grocery in Thomaston, but it doesn't appear that she actually has a storefront take-out operation in Cushing itself.

Not particularly close to Friendship but on the same peninsula, you'll find the Narrows Tavern in Waldoboro. It's got a neighborhood bar/pub feel, but friendly enough. I've only done the burgers and sandwiches there - which were fine, pretty tasty - but they have a full menu, too.

Miller's Lobster is the closest place i can think of to Cushing, but really you're talking just minutes away to Thomaston, St. George, and maybe 5 minutes more to Rockland. Are you saying that you'll be in Cushing without a car to get around?

Amy's Pies are indeed terrific and Thomaston grocery will reserve one for you. Great little store for provisions, fresh meats for the grill etc. So sad that Walmart is coming to town to put them out of business.

Thanks so much for the feedback.

I will in fact have access to a car, but was simply curious as to whether there are any notable food offerings in Cushing/Friendship since I plan on driving around the area and enjoying the scenery this weekend.

In other words, no big deal if there isn't any food in these specific villages; I can easily get to the aforementioned nearby towns for food.

Millers is no where near Cushing. In fact, its on a different peninsula. I spend a lot of time in Cushing/Friendship. There are NO restaurants. There is a small grocery store in Cushing which carries Amy's pies and good bread from Atlantic Co. in Rockland. She also has some homemade items like granola, pizza, great sandwiches, good ice cream. Then there is Wallace's grocery in Friendship. You can get a lobster roll there and gelato! Both places run by excellent folks. Be sure to drop by while you are there.

Thanks for the tips - both places sound great. Do you happen to remember the name of that grocery in Cushing?

It USED to be called Fales, but now under new ownership. I think its Broad Cove Market. Can't miss it. Its the only grocery store on the way down the penninsula.

Your welcome. Please report on your experience in Cushing/Friendship. LOVE it there. On the way to Friendship there is a tiny farmstand that sells veggies, goats milk, fresh goat and feta cheese and the best eggs around. Say hello to Brian for me! :)
