since I thought this place deserved its own. Anyone else been lately? I was there a couple days ago for lunch. I think the menu has changed a bit; at least they have photos of most of the dishes which helps a lot since the staff still speaks barely any English at all (took "cold dishes" to mean I wanted a Coke, so I ended up just walking back into the kitchen for a look in the cooler after a few baffled attempts at communication).

Ordered the "crab with glass noodles" which was two stir-fried whole blue crab with lots of ginger and black pepper, broken up and poured (drippings and all) into a bowl of glass noodles. it was a bizarre but delicious dish, if a bit messy. Noticed a J. Gold review on the wall that mentioned the yam and ham in wine sauce dish, which from the photos looked like slices of white yam with those wrinkly/thin black mushrooms. Have no idea if these are typical Shanghai-ese dishes but I'll go back for the crab noodles, which was only $9.99.

Oh yeah - got my cold app - sauteed spinach with pine nuts. Simple and refreshing on a hot day. They also had jellyfish with sliced celery if, you know, you're in the mood for cold jellyfish.

Agree with JThur01 that this place is highly underrated. Fish fillet with seaweed batter is a very interesting dish, and their bean starch sheets are among the best.
