Stella D'Oro in Old Saybrook Closed

I purchased a $40 voucher for $20 from Shoreline Perks a few weeks ago. It was good for $40 worth of food at Stella D'Oro in Old Saybrook. Today I received an email from Shoreline Perks saying that Stella D'Oro in OS has suddenly and unexpectedly "closed its doors". Shoreline Perks says they have spoken to the owner and those who purchased the vouchers can use them at the new Middletown Stella D'Oro (which got a very positive review from our own Kattyeyes) or get a refund from Shoreline Perks. Frankly, while I was a fan of the OS branch, I'm not surprised they have closed. I was there quite a few times and never saw a crowded dining room even on Saturday nights.

Oh my! Well, I'm glad you have options (refund or M'town). I hope they fare better up here!

We went to the Middletown location last week on Wednesday for lunch, but it was closed. A small sign in the window indicated that lunch is served on weekends only during the summer. The website still shows lunch being served daily.

Ohfercryin'outloud...I guess they reached that decision AFTER we went for lunch because it wasn't on a weekend when we went! I do wish folks would get their act together when launching a new business (keeping website current is a good start). I hope you didn't make a special trip. Where did you end up lunching instead?

And lest anyone think I'm being hard on these folks for not having their act together re when they're open, why bother printing coupons in local mailers for "50% off lunch entree--buy 1 lunch entree, get 2nd entree of equal or lesser value 50% off. Valid 11-3 mon-fri...Offer expires 8-10-12." Bang head here. Just found this in my wallet, thus my comment.

In any case, our randomly offered "mon-fri" July lunch was delicious. I'll gladly go back regardless. I just feel bad when I suggest people go try a new place, only to find it's not even open as promised. "See you in September" I guess. ;P

We ended up ordering our usual luncheon special (chicken w/red curry) at Typhoon.

When I read the title of the thread I thought it was about the Stella D'oro cookie factory. There was an article the New Yorker about it.

Can't go wrong with that. I love how they mold the rice--I think I've had it in a star shape. Very nice presentation.

ETA: If you don't already know this (but bet you do), Fiore II serves a great lunch, replete with garlic knots and a salad with your entree, similar in both price in quality should you be in the mood for Italian and Stella D'Oro is closed. :)
