restaurant week summer 2012
have been trying restaurant week menus--am a diabetic.I went to Maialino, db bistro moderne,Il mulino,Boulud Sud and The Dutch. All were excellent and except for The Dutch made a substituton of some lovely fruit for dessert The Dutch's manager, Colin, was abrasive and nasty, when I asked for some fruit in place of their rich desserts. He told me that I shouldn't have ordered the rest, week menu, Not a good experience.
Sorry to hear about that. I have several friends that are diabetic and I can't recall a single time that the restauant couldn't/wouldn't make some kind of substitition.
I always thought that one of the purposes of restaurant week was to provide a dining experience that would encourage customers to return for a full priced experience at a later date. Clearly the manager's attitude is not going to attract repeat business.
I totally agree. How could the Dutch,a restaurant of that caliber, not accommodate a diabetic? It sounds as if management considered that customer a second class citizen since he/she came in for restaurant week instead of other times of the year. Why bother agreeing to participate in restaurant week if management is going to have that kind of attitude? You certainly won't find me eating there.
If the Dutch is that kind of a restaurant, you will never catch me there. I also have diabetes and whenever I order a prix fixe that includes desert, which I cannot eat, I am always accomodated by the management with an elegant substitution. If a restaurants management can be nasty about doing this, it will lose many customers such as I.
You never find me there.
