Looking for Japanese restaurant with Japanese sushi chef serving freshly grated wasabi

  • 5

Hi there

I have 2 friends are craving for freshly grated wasabi. May I know any good suggestions ?

Many thanks in advance.

  1. I sometimes see it at Shiro on Cambie, but I don't know if they actually give it to everybody or if they jack it up with that green-coloured horseradish powder.

There was a lot of talk about it around years past but haven't seen nearly as much in restaurants for about a decade-maybe the producers of the 'next big thing' have all gone under.

I suspect it has more to do with cost and scarcity. Kimura used to pull out "the big guns" from time to time but alas that is no help to the OP. I wonder if they have it at Miko on Robson. I'd try giving them a call.

    2. I remember having real wasabi at Shiro in Vancouver. I think there was another restaurant too - I think it may have been Octopus Garden.

I think the sushi itself matters more than the wasabi. That being said I would recommend Sushi Hachi in Richmond (need to reserve at least 1 day in advance) or Ajisai (the grilled hamachi pressed sushi is amazing)
