Excellent cheesecake?
I am not a huge cheesecake fan, but my husband is. He does not like ricotta cheesecake (that I actually do like!). I would love to pick up a small one for him while in Manhattan today. Any recommendations? Midtown east or south of there is fine. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I haven't tried Eileen's yet, but another choice for you is S&S, which is carried by Zabar's. I tried one direct from their store quite a number of years ago and have never forgotten it. S&S is in the Bronx, but Zabar's is not, and S&S and Eileen's are the two places most often cited as making the best New York cheesecake in the Five Boroughs. Very honorable mention for Two Little Red Hens on 2nd Av. between 85th and 86th Sts.
For ricotta cheesecake, you are really best off going to Brooklyn, and if you're willing to do that, post a query on the Outer Boroughs board. I haven't been lately, but I'm guessing Rocco's is still best in Manhattan, but a far cry from the best to be had in Brooklyn (Villabate in Bensonhurst). I imagine there's good ricotta cheesecake to be had in the Bronx, too, but post to Outer Boroughs for that, too.

Eileen's on Kenmare is the best store bought cheesecake I ever had. They have several sizes including individual ones. It is not ricotta style, it is cream cheese style. I like juniors cheese pie, better than their cheese cake. But Eileen's is the best.
