Roasted vegetable strata - substitute tater tots for bread component?

Am intending to roast off the veggies au sec the day prior. If I bake the tater tots beforehand, shouldn't they work in place of bread? Might I add flour to the egg / cream / cheese mixture to help the strata set? TIA.

If tater tots is what you have, go for it. I use tater tots for breakfast hashbrowns/egg dishes when I have them. They won't soak up the egg like the traditional dish, and yes, it becomes more like a frittata. Remember, they are pre-seasoned, so go easy on the salt.

i don't think you need flour, but maybe frozen hash browns in place of tater tots? the tots won't hold their shape anyway.

My sister makes one every Christmas like this, with a bag of loose defrosted hash browns. I bet tat tots cost more, plus they're pre-fried so would be adding grease.

I must confess I have made a strata with McDonald's hash browns as a layer and they worked really well. I really wanted to have potatoes in it, and the only thing close and open was McD.

It was layers of veg, cheese, hash browns (no bread) and an egg/cream mix poured over. I would think you just need less of the egg mixture than with bread.
