  1. Looks like it could be fun/interesting but it is during TIFF so probably will miss it .

I am not sure why they are encouraging people to vote multiple times too.. Says "come back tomorrow to vote again", said the same thing after I submitted nominations.

Wonder how many tickets they are selling to the event since only 8 food trucks are serving at the actual event. I can picture longer lines than usual.

Anyway, sure it will be a fun atmosphere. Suresh knows how to put on events.

Why exactly are they selling tickets to an event where a ticket only gives you the 'priviledge' of buying from a food truck? Did I miss something? I'll buy on the street if I want food-truck fare.

As is the answer for all of these types of "pay to get in market" - they have to pay for the venue, pay for the sound system, pay for the... etc....

I think it is more a way to limit the number of people too since these events are really popular right now, I think over time the popularity may fade (as options become more available on the street/ with pop-up restaurants) but by that point they will have achieved what they are looking to do (make food trucks more available, increase options).

If you click on the "vote" button you can see what the trucks are serving too. I think it could be an interesting evening still but obviously the $15 will limit who goes.

However, they are giving away some tickets as well. Not sure how the giveaway will work.

    2. I couldn't find a list of vendors attending, and the details for "complimentary food" for the $60 ticket is lacking. Does it mean AYCE food, or is there a limit? By comparison, the $95 general admin tickets for the NYC Vendy awards is for AYCE and open bar with beer, wine and soft drinks, and there's usually a wide range of vendors.

Maybe it isnt' clear on the site, but, the top 8 trucks that are voted here:

Will be at the award ceremony serving. Hope they have a bunch of other pop-ups, etc.

As for the VIP ticket, not sure but "complimentary food" doesn't sound like AYCE to me... Like, maybe AYCE but not a huge amount of food... Makes sense if they gave you a certain number of tickets that could be exchanged for food at the trucks.

      2. Forgive my ignorance, but how do they power food trucks? On the surface, it seems odd to me that such an environmentally friendly venue would house the vehicles.

It's a ticketed event because we're having it at the brick works site.
Limited number of tickets (trust me, it will be a lot less than what you're used to at street food events). event is designed to address the line issues.

The $60 ticket is exactly what it is. See the menus on the food truck eats site? you can eat from the top 8 trucks for 2 hours AND the 8 popups that we haven't announced yet, and have some drinks. It will also be a limited number of people for vip.

yes we're giving away vip tickets
yes we're giving away 100 general admission tickets

          1. re: Suresh

Thanks Suresh to clarifications, can you explain more about how the giveaways are going to happen?

The VIP option sounds like a great option now that it has been explained more, sure they will go fast.

            1. re: ylsf

It's safe to say that people are getting a little tired of lineups and crowded events, so we set a maximum # of guests to keep it comfortable and manageable. also added the vip option so people dont have to worry about pulling out their wallets at the event (speeds up the lines, and trucks are ready to pump out the food).

Plus we want to thank everyone for waiting in the lines at previous events etc etc. So we'll be giving away 100 general admission via the facebook/twitter channels.
So basically it will be a 'free' ticket that people can grab via the ticket page.
We'll chunk it off tomorrow and friday to try and make it as fair as possible. For eg, we'll release a batch of freebies tomorrow at 10am, then probably some in the afternoon, evening, and again on friday. etc etc. This way it evens the flow.

VIP giveaway will also work the same way. free ticket (1 per person) on the ticket page, spread between friday and monday or something.
If you want the freebies, your best bet is to watch the #awestruck2012 hashtag on twitter, or facebook.

              hope that helps.
in terms of numbers, VIP will be smaller than the brick works picnic. like i said, I'm going for comfort here. plenty of vendors, small lines, fast moving.

the giveaways can be taken from the main ticket page, but you have to follow the facebook page or twitterings to find out when they're doing them. it sounds like it will be about 4 times a day over today and tomorrow. the first section went fast this morning at 10am!

your best bet is probably to watch the #awestruck2012 hashtag on twitter or facebook.

            2. re: Googs

Trucks will plug in to the Brick Works power supply which is supplied through bullfrog power. Both the Brick Works and the AwesTRUCK organizers are committed to making the event as green as we possibly can.

            3. Reminder that tickets are on sale now.

All the free tickets have been given away from what I understand. I tried twice but they went in milliseconds :)
